Sports Techie have today released their annual #SportTechie25 list – counting down the 25 most ‘tech savvy’ sports teams in the world.
While the list is dominated by American teams from the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL, AS Roma were one of only five football clubs to feature on the list.
Roma came in at No.13 on the list, ahead of the likes of the New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys and LA Clippers, whilst MLS side LA Galaxy were placed 16th, Bayern Munich 9th, Seattle Sounders 5th and Manchester City 4th.
Earlier this year, Roma launched a new mobile app and also became the first major European football club to use Facebook Live to stream a full first-team match. The game was watched by 277,316 unique fans for a total of 549,304 minutes on the social media platform.
The club used Facebook again to host a special 360-degree video of the 1-0 win against Napoli at Stadio Olimpico.
In 2016, Roma also became the first club to launch on the Medium platform, partnered with Giphy to create a dedicated AS Roma Gif channel – with over 106 million views to date, teamed up with Spotify to release playlists curated by the team’s first-team stars, launched an official Periscope account and unveiled the team’s new home and away strips on Instagram and Snapchat respectively.
In November, the club took to Twitter to allow fans to vote for the language of the club’s next official website. The fans picked Arabic and last week, the club’s first Arabic website launched.
