Spalletti spies room for improvement despite valuable win

Coach Luciano Spalletti was not prepared to get too carried away following Roma's 3-1 win over Napoli on Saturday.

The result sends the Giallorossi above their rivals into second in the fledgling Serie A table - but Spalletti is not getting excited just yet.

Goals from Edin Dzeko (twice) and Mohamed Salah secured the three points.

"Yes, it was a good game and a good victory but there are things that we can do better," Spalletti said. "The guys nevertheless played some nice stuff and scored important goals against a top side."

The message is loud and clear: Roma have joined the party.

"You were the ones who had doubts: nothing is ever good enough at Roma. Obviously we have to work harder because you could see the team were under the cosh at points. We could have kept the ball higher up the pitch instead of in our penalty box."

You were humble and prepared to work hard...

"It's true, we encountered some problems especially in the second half when some players pulled up with cramp because of the humidity, which made it hard to breathe. When you try and play higher up the pitch against Napoli, they'll always find someone who's good in possession and cause you problems."

Edin Dzeko seems to have found his feet in the 4-2-3-1 formation.

"He scored twice but in terms of being clinical and nasty, he has to do better. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but in the first half he had four or five chances when he could have hurt them. He's an exceptional player but he's not playing to the height of his ability. Nevertheless, we thank him for the two goals."
